I have installed my brand new Debian testing "jessie" but I cannot
understand this error during the installation:

is a problem with the sources. You can try to manually complete the bootstrap by
typing these two commands:

If that does not work, send an email to the Orocos user's mailing

Someone could help me?

Yes, I have installed it using the cmake so:

git clone git://gitorious.org/orocos-toolchain/ocl.git
cd ocl
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../
make install

Obviously it requires rtt, log4cpp etc. so i solved the dependency in
the same way like:

git clone git://gitorious.org/orocos-toolchain/rtt.git
cd rtt
mkdir build
etc...

I will write a small bash script because I don't like the fact that
Orocos could be installed only on Ubuntu...

Greetings,
Fabrizio

What do you mean by this? Why could you not install Orocos on any
other Unix system? We've done so without any problem on OSX, RHEL and
others.

I also had hard time with versions 2.6+ and Debian (at least with Jessie,
but I'm quite sure it's worst on older versions). I tried many installation
options (ros, bootstrap+autoproj, debian packages, git), and none of them
worked out of the box.

Ok, I will install a fresh debian Jessie and I will write a small

Following informations for here :
http://www.orocos.org/wiki/orocos/toolchain/quick-start

The wget command behaved strangely as it created a
"toolchain-2.6:bootstrap.sh" file instead of the expected "bootstrap.sh".
So I edited the wiki to add a file naming to wget ("-O bootstrap-2.6.sh")

BTW, the header text is certainely outdated :

-------
This page explains how to install the Orocos Toolchain from the public
repositories using a script. ROS-users might want to take a look at
the orocos_toolchain
stack <http://www.ros.org/wiki/orocos_toolchain> and the rtt_ros_integration
stack <http://www.ros.org/wiki/rtt_ros_integration>.
-------
refers to ROS packages that are deprecated or on their way to become
deprecated.

There is no toolcahin-2.7 branch on gitorius, so I suppose that the only
change is to change one of the last lines from :
ruby autoproj_bootstrap $@ git git://
gitorious.org/orocos-toolchain/build.git branch=toolchain-2.6
push_to=git [..] ...:orocos-toolchain/build.git
to :
ruby autoproj_bootstrap $@ git git://
gitorious.org/orocos-toolchain/build.git branch=toolchain-2.7
push_to=git [..] ...:orocos-toolchain/build.git

Whatever I take (2.6 or 2.7) the problem is the same, apparently with ruby :

-------
autoproj: installing a proper Ruby environment (this can take a long time)
installing OS packages: ruby1.9.1-dev, rubygems-integration
E: Unable to locate package rubygems-integration
ERROR: failed to run /bin/bash /tmp/osdeps_sh20140206-3522-royyf0
ERROR: command output is: Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
------

FYI here is a list a available package with rubygems keyword :

root@wix-linux:/opt/orocos# apt-cache search rubygems
rubygems-doc - package management framework for Ruby libraries/applications
rubygems1.8 - package management framework for Ruby libraries/applications
rubygems - package management framework for Ruby libraries/applications
libruby-extras - a bundle of additional libraries for Ruby
libruby1.8-extras - a bundle of additional libraries for Ruby 1.8
ruby1.9.1 - Interpreter of object-oriented scripting language Ruby

And in any case :
# ruby --version
ruby 1.9.3p484 (2013-11-22 revision 43786) [x86_64-linux]

Sylvain have you any idea of what is going wrong ?

According to
http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=rubygems-integration
this package should be present.

Having a look in my /etc/apt/sources.list showed some "squeeze" references
:(. The problem is that I'm using debootstrap (from Ubuntu) to create my
debian rootfs and debootstrap doesn't know jessie yet ... (but doesn't
generate any error and generate something else silently...).

I'll install a proper jessie and come back (being on a squeeze version is
certainly the root cause of many of my problems).

In a fresh jessie install here is the result of the toolchain-2.6 bootstrap
:

So, what do you want ? (all, none or a comma-separated list of: os gem
pip) [all]
autoproj: installing a proper Ruby environment (this can take a long time)
autoproj: installing autoproj and its dependencies (this can take a long
time)
installing/updating RubyGems dependencies: autobuild
installing/updating RubyGems dependencies: autoproj
autodetecting the operating system
looking for RubyGems updates

autodetected the shell to be bash, sourcing autoproj shell helpers
add "Autoproj.shell_helpers = false" in autoproj/init.rb to disable
checked out autoproj main configuration
../bootstrap-2.6.sh: 1:
/home/ard/orocos-2.6/.gems/gems/autoproj-1.9.6/shell/autoproj_bash:
function: not found
../bootstrap-2.6.sh: 2: local: not in a function

The problem is with the "autoproject". With Debian there are
dependencies problem...
